The project aims to integrate the CAMS products into Romania’s national environmental monitoring and management framework. This initiative is designed to enhance air quality monitoring, inform policy decisions and improve public health outcomes through comprehensive data integration and innovative technological solutions. The consortium, comprising NMA, NEPA, ROSA and INOE, brings together a wealth of expertise and experience to ensure the successful implementation and sustainability of the project. The key objectives of the project include: • Data integration and downscaling - refining CAMS data to high-resolution formats suitable for local and regional use (particularly in urban areas).

  • Enhanced monitoring and validation - ensuring the accuracy and reliability of CAMS products through robust validation processes using national in situ observations;
  • Database and tools development - creating a centralized database and user-friendly tools for data access, processing and visualization;
  • Communication and dissemination - promoting the understanding and adoption of CAMS products through targeted communication strategies and outreach activities;
  • Training and capacity building - building technical expertise and ensuring sustainable knowledge transfer through tailored training programs.

By providing detailed and accurate air quality data, the project will enable more effective regulatory actions and mitigation strategies. This has a strong chance to lead to improved environmental and public health outcomes. The enhanced capacity for air quality monitoring and forecasting will support Romania’s efforts to meet its climate targets and foster innovation in environmental research and technology. The effective start date is 01/09/2024 for a duration of 36 months.
