ITaRS Summer School 2013: Aerosol Remote Sensing, Processes & Applications, Sep 23 - Oct 4, 2013, Bucharest, Romania

The 1st Summer school of the EU-funded network “ITaRS - Initial Training for atmospheric Remote Sensing” emphasises on aerosols by providing fundamentals of atmospheric optics and observation. At RADO site, participants can get hands-on experience for a variety of instruments. Apart from the ITaRS fellows the school is open for 15 PhD students and young post-docs in the field of Atmospheric Sciences. The participation fee is €600, incl. scientific and social activities, material, lunch and coffee. Please send your application (motivation letter and CV) in a single pdf-file to coordination@itars.net  by July 30th.

AQUA-GRO 1st campaign was organized between 15 - 29 September 2012. Participating lidar stations: Athens, Bucharest, Oxilithos, Iasi, Timisoara. A medium Saharan dust outbreak was measured both in Greece and Romania between 23-25 of September.

ARSss 2012

The Atmospheric Remote Sensing summer school (ARSss) is organized by RADO and comprises training classes in the scientific modules introducing concepts, practice and caveats of the different instrumental techniques, algorithm concepts and the atmospheric processes. This year, the ARS summer school was organized at RADO center in Magurele, 21st - 31st of August, with a special focus on hands-on training.

ChArMEx campaign is an European integrated measurement campaign to study pollution transport in Europe. A 72 hours continuous measurements EARLINET exercise was organized in the frame of ChArMEx, from July 9, 06:00 UT, up to July 12, 05:59 UT. The 72 hourly profiles from Bucharest lidar station were fed into the EARLINET's Single Calculus Chain, which was used to obtain in an automatic and homogeneous way optical profiles for all participating stations.

EMEP - PEGASOS campaign is an intensive European measurement campaign focusing on aerosols (EMEP) and oxidizing capacity (PEGASOS), both at ground level and in the altitude. The campaign started at 8th of June and ended at July 17. Bucharest station participated both with lidar aerosol profiles, and ground-based in situ aerosol chemical composition data.

Grimsvötn eruption 2011

Thumbnail

After Eyja.... in 2010, another (smaller) Icelandic volcano errupted in 2011. Europe was not signifficantly affected this time. Nevertheless, our lidar was measuring. If not for aviation safety purposes, for scientific anyhow.

Eyjafjallajökull eruption 2010

Thumbnail

An intensive measurement campaign with the multiwavelegth Raman lidar was performed at Bucharest lidar station during the Eyjafjallajökull eruption in 2010, simultaneous with other EARLINET stations. Volcanic ash was present over Romania from April 17 until May 11, but higher concentrations (up to 100 micrograms per cubic meters) were measured on April 18 and 21, at an altitude range of 2 - 5 km.

EARLI09

Our multiwavelength Raman lidar RALI was participating to the EARLINET intercomparison campaign, Leipzig, May 2009. During the campaign, a complex procedure was developed and tested on the datasets submitted by each group involved in EARLI09. Our lidar system has passed the test for a threshold of 10% deviation from the reference signal, for all channels.
