At RADO, active remote sensing instruments (lidars) are used together with integrated column pasive remote sensing ones (sun tracking photometers) and in situ ground-level monitors (for gases and particles). This synergy of point monitor-total column and profiles supplemented by modelling tools and satellite data makes RADO an atmospheric composition distributed observatory.
