QA4EO Atmospheric Composition Uncertainty Field Studies

This project, titled “QA4EO Atmospheric Composition Uncertainty Field Studies”, was designed to gather comprehensive datasets through a series of field campaigns in order to assess the uncertainty of satellite-based atmospheric composition products, in accordance with QA4EO guidelines. The primary objective was to provide high-quality, correlated data to validate products from missions such as the Sentinel-5 Precursor (S5P).

The scope included four main field studies scheduled for 2019: an airborne and ground-based campaign in Romania focusing on NOâ‚‚ and SOâ‚‚, a similar airborne deployment in the German Ruhr area, support for the MAGIC campaign in France to measure CHâ‚„ and CO total columns, and COCCON ground-based FTIR deployments.

The contractor was responsible for all stages of these campaigns, encompassing planning, logistics, the execution of both airborne and ground-based observations, data quality control, preliminary analysis, and the ultimate delivery of all collected data to the ESA Validation Data Centre (EVDC).

The project ran between 2019 to 2023.
